Just do that, but more so.

By: Rebecca Fischler, Director, 2-for-1

I’m honestly not sure how this happened. At some point, obviously, I agreed to direct “2 for 1,” one of the short plays in our upcoming show Fourplay. Either that or I left the room and was elected in my absence. (I hear that’s how they choose vice presidential candidates too.)

I’ve never directed anything before. I’m very rarely in charge of things. It’s terrifying to have two incredibly talented performers look at you after they finish a scene and be expected to say something clever and insightful that they haven’t already thought of. Fortunately, I couldn’t do better than Erik Harrison and Andy De as my cast; no matter how terrible a director I am, they’ll still deliver a great show. This is really a great opportunity to see what this looks like from the other end.

I can totally relate to what Erica was saying in her last post, though. “Like that, but more so” is a note I gave last night. What is anybody supposed to do with that? It made sense before I said it out loud.

Of course, in the directing department, Andy is making it look easy. My other role in Fourplay is onstage, in “#sexts: a tease,” both written and directed by our own Andy De. Another first-time director, he has been great at poking at us to try new things.

This is going to be your first little taste of what Andy is cooking up for #sexts, our summer Fringe production. It’s been a long time coming, and it’s going to be worth it. #sexts is going to be playful and fun and sweet and I think you’re going to love it. I’m so excited to finally have a chance to act one-on-one with the phenomenal Erica Smith. I’m also thrilled to play Vicky, who’s as lovable a cardigan-wearing nerd as you’ll ever find. I hope that the cardigan-wearing nerds in our audience will enjoy her as much as I do.
